    Dyeing raffia

Our know-how is based on several key elements. Firstly, it requires an in-depth knowledge of the material itself, raffia, which is a natural fiber derived from the leaves of palm trees. Our craftsmen have mastered the techniques of harvesting, processing and preparing raffia to guarantee its quality and durability.

Our craftsmen often use natural dyes (tea, ash, mud, flowers, spices...) which offer ecological advantages, as they are derived from renewable sources and reduce environmental impact compared to synthetic dyes. What's more, they can add an authentic, organic touch to raffia items, reinforcing the handcrafted aesthetic.

The natural dyeing process typically involves several steps, including preparing the material, creating the dye from the natural source, immersing the material in the dye, and finally drying and fixing the color. Craftsmen can adjust the dye concentration and immersion time to achieve different shades of color.

    Create customized, made-to-measure pieces

In addition, this know-how implies expertise in crocheting, braiding, sewing and modeling techniques specific to raffia. Artisans need fine manual skills to create intricate patterns, custom shapes and precise details. This often requires years of experience and hands-on learning.

We are also able to customize items according to individual customer preferences. This includes the ability to integrate specific designs, custom colors and other unique elements to create bespoke pieces.

    Quality control

Quality control is a crucial process in the manufacture of raffia items such as bags, hats, baskets and accessories, and involves several steps to ensure the precision, strength and aesthetics of the finished pieces. Here are just a few of the things we focus on during production:

Visual inspection: Craftsmen and quality control managers carry out a thorough visual inspection of crocheted pieces. This includes examining stitch regularity, pattern symmetry, edge cleanliness and overall consistency of the work.

Measurements and dimensions: The exact dimensions of crocheted items, whether bags, hats or other accessories, are checked using measuring instruments. This ensures that each product meets the design specifications and quality standards set.

Strength and durability: Crocheted pieces are subjected to strength tests to ensure they meet the required durability standards. This may include tests for tensile strength, deformation and other forms of potential wear.

Defect control: Defects such as loose threads, irregularities in braiding, pattern errors or any apparent imperfections are identified and assessed. Items that fail to meet quality standards are discarded or corrected.

Conformity to design: The hooks must conform to the specified design. Patterns, custom details and other aesthetic features must match customer expectations and brand standards.

Checking seams: If the item has seams, they are examined closely to ensure that they are strong, even and well executed. Hook stitches must also be uniform.

Use tests: Some items may be subjected to simulated use tests to assess their resistance under real-life conditions. For example, bags can be tested for their load-bearing capacity or resistance to daily wear and tear.
